EuroMTS Limited is the company that manages the pan-European electronic trading
platform for government and quasi-government Eurobenchmark bonds, bonds denominated
in euro with at least €5 billion in outstanding size.
EuroMTS, a private London-based company, officially started its operations on the 9th April 1999 as the pan-European electronic trading system for euro-denominated benchmark government bonds. Shares in the company are held by MTS SpA, whose shareholders in turn are Borsa Italiana (60.37%) and major financial institutions which have a strong presence in the European secondary government bond markets.
The company, regulated by the FSA, was formed to enable institutional
trading of Eurobenchmark bonds electronically through a common trading
platform, with
the primary objective of enhancing the liquidity, transparency and efficiency
of the European bond markets while minimising the cost of trading.
Today, EuroMTS is the reference electronic market for Eurobenchmark
bonds with a pool of instruments that now includes benchmark securities
from 15 government
and quasi-government issuers, namely Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Depfa, the European
Investment Bank (EIB), Freddie Mac and Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau (KfW).
In addition, divisions and segments dedicated for specific bond types
with their respective listing criteria are found under the EuroMTS
market: EuroCredit
MTS, MTS
Austrian Market, MTS
Greek Market, MTS
Ireland, NewEuroMTS,
the EuroGlobalMTS,
the EuroBenchmark
Treasury Bill Segment, the MTS
Quasi-Government Segment, the MTS Cedulas Market and
the EuroMTS
Linkers Market.
100% of the shares of EuroMTS are now held by MTS SpA, following the
approval of the Boards of MTS SpA and EuroMTS for the two companies
to consolidate. EuroMTS
however continues to operate as an inter-dealer trading system incorporated
in the United Kingdom.
